There have been a lot of puppies coming and going in the last few weeks, but I must inform you that
two baby panda dogs have been occupying the nursery. Bottle babies at first, they’re well into weaning now and today we introduced **WATER!** (because…poop)

Jax responded to a fat panda crisis this morning.
Just after breakfast, and while I was away momentarily, the gluttonous little babies convinced their big furry friend they were starving. Jax noted I’d left their food bin open and being tall enough to access the kibble, Jax had no choice but to be their hero.
When I returned, the ravenous babies waited intently as Jax regurgitated their stolen nosh. They ate it and their lives were saved.

The fat pandas are almost ready to leave captivity and go off into the great big world.
Magnus has a family in wait, so he sends video updates to his new mom, but Gordo is still trying to make an impression.

The fat pandas have been a joy to teach. They are smart, eager to learn, and they started their education while still in the nursery.
Bottle babies have an advantage in Crazy Town because they have far more time to learn important life skills before leaving foster care.
Magnus (soon to be Huck) already has a farm to call home, but Gordo is still trying to show off all his ADOPTABLE skills!

It is official: BOTH pandas won the furever home lottery!
Gordo’s mom and dad eagerly awaited their road trip to meet him yesterday, and I was excited to get to know some folks with whom I’d only spoken on the phone, but already knew and loved.
In my yard I witnessed the cutest training session where Dad taught Gordo to fetch a stick and Mom held the camera and joyfully narrated the lesson. Dad has just retired and was looking for a farmhand, sidekick and best buddy to love and teach, and Gordo is just the guy.
After their upcoming trip, they’ll welcome him into his new life on the farm, which means I get to be the auntie until their return!
For now, this picture says it all for me. Look at the eye contact with his new dad.

Took a little trip out to the farm for one last panda reunion yesterday.
The FORMER Gordo graduated the orphanage and was so lovingly received into his new family this morning!
Tonight I get to announce the most serendipitous name choices from adopters who don’t even know each other. My pandas, outside of captivity and on their respective farms are known as HUCK and FINN!
One of my favorite characters in literature, I could not be more amused. Tonight my heart is so full.
The fat pandas came to me as bottle babies after their mom was hit by a car and killed. I couldn’t have dreamt better lives or humans for these special puppies. It was an honor to be their fill-in mom.

Life on the outside is pretty doggone good! Huck has been home for a couple weeks, and Finn went to his farm about 24 hours ago.

In honor of the pandas turning a year old, I FINALLY get to tell you about the most inspirational poop ever pooped in this nuthouse because it’s been turned into MERCH!
T’was a normal day in Crazy Town In the summer of 22
When I rushed to a playpen
To photograph an epic poo.
I could see it so clearly
Though blurred in the sombra
That my pupper had just shat
A double entendre!
The artist is uncertain, but
Confirmed a panda twin
Was it the work of one little Huck
Or was it made by Finn?
The stool so exquisite:

It wasn’t just a perfect sh!t,
but a solid metaphor!
The heart he crapped: mended.
Bleeding cured by styptsis.
And then the grammarian
Finished his art with…
… a preceding ellipsis.
Punctuation, is what he dolloped,
In front of that heart.
It’s the PAUSE we offer underdogs
So a better story can start!
The canines keep on coming.
More than I can handle,
So that’s why I had my mom
Make this turd into a candle.
Hours upon hours
Have been spent on this doodie
Smearing the design into glass
To be sold for all its beauty.
Ignite it for a dog you love
Display it with all your pride
Know that because this fire burns
You helped me take their side.
The underdogs, the labeled dogs
The hurt and misunderstood.
The babies, the biters, — surprise!
All they ever were was GOOD.
